Kathmandu, February 18 The nation will be celebrating the 66th Democracy Day with much fanfare by organising various programmes tomorrow. The Democracy Day Celebration Main Organising Committee is set to organise a special function at Army Pavilion, Tundikhel, to mark the day, which is the reminder of the advent of democracy and the abolition of 104 years of the autocratic family Rana rule 66 years ago. Former President Ram Baran Yadav has said that no one would be freed from the responsibility until the peoples’ representatives implement the new constitution. In his message extended on the Democracy day, Yadav said that at a time when the country is celebrating the 64th Democracy Day, it’s the responsibility of the people to strengthen the democratic system. On the occasion, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended greetings to all Nepali people living at home and abroad, wishing that this day would inspire them to adhere to the basic norms and values of democracy. After 1951, the day holds a special significance. The journey of development and consciousness for democracy is said to have started from February 19 of that year. In her message, President Bhandari said the day reminds the people of the importance of renunciation and sacrifice for change. “Democracy is the best governance system in the world, as it makes people sovereign. We are now enjoying the federal democratic republic system after invasion on the democracy established by the people in 1951,” read the message. She has also paid tributes to all unknown and unknown martyrs who sacrificed their life for the sake of nation.
