KATHMANDU: After their bilateral meeting, Prime Ministers of Nepal and India, KP Sharma Oli and Narendra Modi respectively, addressed a joint press conference in New Delhi on Saturday. In their addresses, both acknowledged that the Nepal-India relationship suffered some problems after promulgation of the Constitution in Nepal, but said it was over after the high-level meeting today. 'Nepal Constitution was significant achievement' Addressing the press conference, Modi said today was the significant day for historic Nepal-India ties. 'After a struggle of decades, making and promulgation of the Constitution are significant achievements,' Modi said, 'But, its success depends on consensus and dialogues.' 'I believe, following these principles, via political dialogues with all sides, you will be able to satisfactorily resolve all issues over the Constitution and lead Nepal toward the path of progress and stability,' Modi said at the conference addressing Modi. Claiming that India always wanted economic prosperity and development in Nepal, Modi also announced to supply 600 megawatt electricity to Nepal within two years. 'India's economic progress can be an easy medium of economic prosperity for Nepal,' Modi encouraged Nepal to maintain strong economic ties with the southern neighbour. An emotional Modi said all Indians had felt pain about the earthquakes in Nepal last year and wished all success to Oli-led government for the reconstruction drive. 'I and entire India are supporters of economic development in Nepal and India's support is always positive,' Modi told Oli, 'I fully believe the Nepal-India ties will be stronger and grow to a new height in your leadership.' In beginning of his detailed address, Modi had spent some minutes to describe various aspects of Nepal-India relations. Presenting integrity of mountains and sacredness of the Ganga River as 'witnesses' of the historic ties, he said the both nations shared common goals of peace, stability and economic development in Nepal.

'Mission accomplished' Likewise, PM Oli informed in the conference that the misunderstanding surfaced between Nepal and India after promulgation of the Constitution was over with his visit now. Earlier, he had stated that his main mission of the visit was to clear the misunderstanding and return the ties to the same historic cordiality and enthusiasm as seen during Modi's visit to Nepal in 2014. 'Our relations are beyond governments and beyond formal tales,' he said, 'We are linked by history, culture and geography.' 'For Nepal, the relationship with India is important,' Oli said. 'We are proud of impressive development of India and we want to reap benefits from this.' The Prime Minister also added that India's support would be crucial for Nepal to achieve its vision of graduation to the status of developing countries from least developed countries by 2022. Meanwhile, Oli informed that President Bidya Devi Bhandari and himself had invited their Indian counterparts Pranab Mukherjee and Narendra Modi respectively for their visits to Nepal this year. Joint agreements exchanged Before their addresses, the Prime Minister duo had jointly inaugurated Mujaffarpur(India)-Dhalkebar(Nepal) transmission system. Members of Nepali and Indian delegations had also signed and exchanged seven agreements for partnership and progress during the meeting. READ ALSO:
