KATHMANDU, JUNE 26
Nepal Police have arrested 18 operators and representatives of 15 unregistered education consultancies operating in the Kathmandu Valley as part of an ongoing crackdown on businesses operating without completing the required legal procedures.
The arrests were made during inspections in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur, where police found the consultancies providing services without proper registration.
Of those arrested, 14 were handed over to the District Police Range Kathmandu, while two each were sent to the District Police Ranges in Bhaktapur and Lalitpur for further investigation and legal action.
The consultancies facing action are Guruba/Study Glider, LEXICO Education, Pascal Education, Apitome Education, Meghatech Education, Skill Point Education, Vibrant Education, Dream Education, Universal Gateway, Victory Education, 24 Hours Education, Greener Education, Global Impact, Ureshi Education and Bloom Abroad.
Police said the operation is part of continued efforts to curb fraud in the education consultancy sector and ensure compliance with existing laws governing institutions that facilitate overseas study.
The latest action follows a major enforcement drive on May 1, when police raided 195 education consultancies and educational counselling firms across the Kathmandu Valley over allegations of defrauding students in the name of sending them abroad for higher studies.
During that operation, police arrested 68 consultancy operators and managers. Fifteen consultancies that were in the process of obtaining registration were released on bail, while the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology was informed for further action regarding their regulatory status.
