KATHMANDU, AUGUST 11
Rain and thundershowers are likely in parts of Nepal on Tuesday, with the Himalayan and hilly regions expected to remain generally cloudy while conditions in the Terai will be partly cloudy, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.
Moderate rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely at a few places in the Himalayan region, while some parts of the hilly regions may receive moderate rainfall with thunderstorms.
One or two places in the Terai regions are also likely to receive moderate rainfall.
The weather is expected to remain broadly similar tonight, with cloudy conditions continuing across the Himalayan and hilly regions and partly cloudy skies in the Terai. Moderate rain or snowfall is possible at a few places in the Himalayan and hilly regions, while one or two places in the Terai may receive moderate rain.
Pokhara, Kathmandu among wetter cities
Pokhara is forecast to receive moderate rain with thundershowers today, with a 60 percent chance of rain and a maximum temperature of 29–31°C. The chance of rain rises to 70 percent tonight, when temperatures are expected to fall to 21–23°C.
In Kathmandu, light rain with thunderstorms is likely during the day, with a 40 percent chance of rain and a maximum temperature of 29–31°C. The capital could see moderate rain with thundershowers at night, with the probability rising to 60 percent.
Okhaldhunga, Dhankuta, Jiri and Taplejung are also expected to receive moderate rain with thundershowers during the day.
Meanwhile, parts of the southern plains are likely to remain comparatively drier. Nepalgunj, Bhairahawa, Simara and Janakpur are forecast to remain partly cloudy during the day, with no rainfall currently forecast for those cities.
The highest daytime temperatures among the listed cities are expected to reach 34–36°C in Bhairahawa, Simara, Biratnagar and Janakpur.
Monsoon remains active
The weather office said the entire country remains under the influence of monsoon winds, while the monsoon trough is currently positioned around its average location.
The forecast indicates that rainfall will remain concentrated mainly over the Himalayan and hilly regions, although isolated moderate showers are also possible in the Terai.
