While parts of Nepal's hills prepare for rain, the heat will intensify across the southern plains on Wednesday, with Janakpur forecast to reach as high as 39°C.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, Janakpur is expected to see a maximum temperature of 37–39°C, with no rain forecast during the day. Simara and Bhairahawa could reach 38°C, while Dhangadi, Nepalgunj, Biratnagar and Dharan are forecast to record temperatures of up to 37°C.
The contrast will be sharper in the hills, where moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at some places. Pokhara has a 40% chance of rain during the day, rising to 60% at night, while Kathmandu has a 40% chance during the day and a 60% chance at night.
The weather office said generally cloudy conditions will prevail in the Himalayan region, while the hills and Terai will remain partly cloudy. Moderate rain or snowfall is possible at a few places in the Himalayan and hilly regions, while moderate rainfall is likely at one or two places in the Terai.
Overnight, moderate rain or snowfall is expected at some places in the Himalayan and hilly regions of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, with rain also possible in parts of Madhesh and the Terai areas of Koshi, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces.
The entire country remains under the influence of the monsoon winds, with the monsoon trough currently around its normal position.
