KATHMANDU, JULY 7

The Meteorological Forecasting Division has warned of heavy rainfall in parts of four provinces on Tuesday as the active monsoon system continues to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms across the country.

According to the Division's 24-hour forecast, the weather will remain generally cloudy nationwide, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning expected at several places in the hilly and Himalayan regions.

Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in the hilly districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini provinces during the day. Light to moderate rainfall is also forecast in parts of Madhesh Province and the Terai districts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpashchim.

The Division has also warned of gusty winds at a few places in Madhesh Province and the Terai of Lumbini Province.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is likely in many hilly and Terai areas, while the Himalayan region may receive rain or snowfall.

Heavy rainfall is forecast at a few places in the hilly and Terai regions of Koshi Province, and at one or two places in the hilly and Terai areas of Gandaki and Lumbini provinces, as well as parts of Madhesh Province.

The Meteorological Forecasting Division said the country remains under the influence of the monsoon, with the monsoon trough lying south of its normal position over eastern Nepal and near its average position over the western region.

Among major cities, Kathmandu and Pokhara are expected to record maximum temperatures of 28–30 degrees Celsius and 30–32 degrees Celsius, respectively, with a 60 percent chance of rain during both the day and night. Temperatures in the western Terai, including Dhangadi and Nepalgunj, are expected to reach 35–37 degrees Celsius despite intermittent rainfall.
