KATHMANDU: A bomb hoax forced the Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Solukhumbu district of eastern Nepal to briefly close this morning.
The airport lies on the lap of Mt Everest, and is considered the gateway to the world's highest mountain.
Authorities closed the Lukla airport briefly for security check after a chit that read 'Bomb here...'was reportedly found after unloading the luggage from a Simrik Air plane that flew to the remote airport from Kathmandu this morning.
According to Inspector Pushkar Bogati at the Solukhumbu District Police Office, no explosive or other suspicious material, however, was found anywhere.
Following the clearance from security personnel, it has been learned that the airport will resume flights shortly.
The Lukla airport has short take off and landing (STOL) airfield at an altitude of 2,845 metres.
