This has reference to the news story “Contender for Nepali Congress presidency decries how people see politicians” (THT, March 4, Page 3). Ram Chandra Paudel’s penchant for suicide cannot be accepted because people ‘hate’ politicians but because of the uncertainty over his election to the post of party president and eventually prime minister. If he was elected party president, he would see and feel people’s immense love for Nepali politicians. Paudel, as an acting president, should have at least mobilized his cadres to remove the rubble hill, of stones and dust, on which they are seen sitting and hoisting a Nepali Congress flag. Since Khula Manch and its podium, bequeathed by dreaded Panchayat rulers, remains the favourite venue for 150 Nepali democratic parties for their assorted activities, they should refurbish and embellish it at their own cost and make it fit for national, regional and international guests. Otherwise, the distinguished guests will leave the country with horrid memories of management ineptitude of the jamboree organizers. Decorating the ratty, filthy, noisy, rubble-strewn, unkempt, dust bowl of a parking lot at prime Khula Manch. Manohar Shrestha, Kathmandu Rhinos This is in response to the news story “Rhinos relocated” (THT, March 6, Page 4). The population of one-horned rhino is declining because of deforestation, human encroachment and poaching. The government decision to translocate the rhino to Bardiya is praiseworthy as it will help diversify the rhino population from one national park to another one. The rhino population has increased from 605 to 645 due to strong determination of the government agencies and cooperation from the local people. Saroj Wagle, Bara Correction I would like to thank the editorial team of The Himalayan Times for its ongoing cooperation. I take this opportunity to inform you that France is proud of the contribution of the Nepalese to the security of France which you have positively showcased in article titled “Nepalis serving in French Army sans any government accord” (THT, March 4, Page 1). However, I would like to bring to your kind attention on following two factual errors: (1) “Foreign legion –also known as Gendarmerie…”, (2) “…..a part of the France’s national force, which is run under the Ministry of Interior”. The correct information is: (1) Foreign Legion is part of the French Army (not Gendarmerie) and Foreign Legion is under the Ministry of Defense (not Interior). In this regard I request you to kindly publish a correction as well as edit the online version of the article at the earliest. Yves Carmona, French Ambassador to Nepal
