Nepali Congress to hold sister wings' conventions in 6 months

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress decided that all of its sister organisations would hold their national general conventions within next six months. The first meeting of the party's newly elected Central Working Committee made the decision accepting President Sher Bahadur Deuba's proposal. Party's sister wings including the Nepal Students Union and the Nepal Tarun Dal have been unable to hold their conventions for more than five years due to various reasons. Panel for PP poll Meanwhile, the meeting formed a three-member election committee to hold election for the party's parliamentary party leader. Exact date of the election, however, is not announced yet. CWC members Surendra Pandey and Guru Raj Ghimire are members of the committee headed by another CWC member Ramesh Rijal. Govt urged to speed-up reconstruction The meeting demanded that the government speed-up reconstruction activities for survivors of the earthquake that rattled the nation on April 25 last year, according to a statement issued by the party central office's Chief Secretary Rishikesh Tiwari. '(The party) also draws a serious attention of the government to control fuel crisis, inflation and black marketing the nation is facing,' the statement added. To take initiatives for headway According to Tiwari, the party also decided to take initiatives to solve current political problems of the nation including differences over demarcation of provincial boundaries. The party would hold meetings and consultations with other parties for that end. The CWC also endorsed President Deuba's decision to nominate seven leaders to the powerful panel. The first meeting also thanked all who made the party's 13th national general convention held in early March a success.
