KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 14

A central committee meeting of the CPN (UML) held prior to the start of the closed-door session of the party's 11th National Congress decided to constitute a 301-member central committee, maintaining the previous composition.

UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli announced the decision. Although Senior Vice-Chairperson Ishwor Pokharel and others had urged that no changes be made to the provisions passed by the party's Statute Convention, the majority opted to preserve the composition in line with the 10th National Congress.

In his inaugural address, Chairperson Oli emphasized that the large turnout of party cadres at the opening ceremony of the 11th National Congress reaffirmed the legitimacy and strength of political parties in the country.

During the central committee meeting, General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel presented the election schedule, code of conduct, and contemporary agendas to be discussed in the closed-door session.
