FNJ President sees need to 'purify' journalism

BHAKTAPUR: The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) President Mahendra Bista said the FNJ was launching a campaign to 'purify' journalism. Addressing the second district convention of the Newa Journalists National Dabu here on Saturday, President Bista said every district chapter of the FNJ would launch the campaign. The leader of the umbrella organisation of working Nepali journalists made such a view arguing that those devoted to journalism round the clock were deprived of FNJ membership while those shirking duty and making journalism the secondary job were dominating in the scene. On the occasion, Chairman of the Press Council Nepal, Borna Bahadur Karki, stressed the need of journalism that helps foster national integrity, ethnic harmony, and national unity. Similarly, Chief Editor of the National News Agency (RSS), Raju Shakya, expressed happiness over the unity among the Newa journalists. He also spoke of the need that journalists helped wipe out anomalies. Various Newa journalist including Dabu's central Chairman Shreekrishna Maharjan, and Krishna Prajapati, Chandra Krishna Shrestha, Rajyalaxmi Shakya said they would work for the professional development of journalism. Meanwhile, the Dabu's convention elected a new working committee under the chairmanship of Ishwor Kaji Khainju, having Sundar Shilpakar as Vice-Chairman, Shimant Shilpakar as Secretary and Dipak Shrestha as Treasurer.
