KATHMANDU: Senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel-led faction of the Nepali Congress on Monday demanded that the party hold elections to the parliamentary party by forging a consensus within the party. Paudel held a meeting with leaders loyal to him at his residence in Bohoratar today. The meeting decided to ask the party President Sher Bahadur Deuba to conduct the elections only after forging an agreement among party leaders. Lawmaker and party's Central Working Committee member Badri Pandey told journalists after the meeting that the leaders also demanded that the party amend the PP statute so as to comply with the new Constitution before holding the elections. Pandey said more than 100 lawmakers and CWC members were present at the meeting. An election committee formed to elect the party's PP leader on Saturday had decided to hold the election of the leader on April 6 and of other positions two days later. A member of the panel, Guru Raj Ghimire, who is believed to be a Paudel sympathiser, however, had registered a note of dissent on the decision of two other members of the committee including Ramesh Rijal and Surendra Pandey.
