KATHMANDU, JUNE 25
The Society of Consulting Architectural and Engineering Firms Nepal (SCAEF Nepal) has successfully concluded a three-day professional training programme on contract management under the FIDIC Red Book 2017, marking the country's first Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training accredited by the Nepal Engineering Council (NEC).
The training, conducted from June 22 to 24 in collaboration with the Construction Business Development Implementation Committee (CBDIC) and the Federation of Contractors' Associations of Nepal (FCAN), aimed to strengthen the professional capacity of key stakeholders involved in construction projects, including clients, consultants and contractors.
According to SCAEF Nepal, the NEC-accredited programme enables participating engineers to earn CPD hours, which are required for maintaining professional competence, fulfilling registration and licence renewal requirements, and staying updated with national and international engineering standards.
The training concluded at Hotel Crystal Pashupati in Gaushala, Kathmandu, on Tuesday. The closing ceremony was chaired by SCAEF Nepal President Thakur Prasad Sharma, while General Secretary Mandakini Karki delivered the welcome remarks. The event was facilitated by Ashaya Ojha, coordinator of the organisation's Professional Development and Capacity Building Subcommittee.
Speaking at the event, officials highlighted the importance of continuous professional development in enhancing engineering standards and improving the quality of infrastructure projects in Nepal.
The programme featured sessions led by experts including Manoj Kumar Sharma, Prof. Khem Nath Dallakoti, Gyanendra Kayastha, Sunil Kumar Dhungel, Krishna Raj Panta, Manoj Kumar Yadav and Jagannath Gautam.
Among the special guests were Nepal Engineering Council Chairperson Prof. Dr. Padma Bahadur Shahi and FCAN Senior Vice-President Ramji Pant.
The training brought together professionals from government agencies, consulting firms and construction companies, including engineers, project managers, procurement specialists, contract administrators and site supervisors. Participants exchanged practical experiences and industry perspectives on issues related to FIDIC-based construction contracts.
The programme covered key aspects of contract management under the FIDIC Red Book 2017, including risk allocation, the role of engineers, contract variations, extensions of time, payment mechanisms, price adjustments, insurance, claims management, dispute avoidance and contract closeout procedures.
SCAEF Nepal said it plans to continue organising similar capacity-building initiatives to enhance professional standards in Nepal's consulting and construction sectors.
