Kathmandu, March 29 All Nepal National Free Students Union affiliated to the CPN-UML today launched a campaign against black-marketing of essential commodities. Speaking at a street discussion programme organised to inaugurate the campaign in the capital, participants said those found involved in black-marketing of essential commodities should be punished. President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Mahendra Bista, who also attended the discussion, said that the market was still witnessing short supply of petroleum products and cooking gas. He said the government was acting as a mute spectator even as black-marketing was thriving across the country. Likewise, Rajib Pahari, chairman of Youth Association Nepal, youth wing of UML, and rights activists Subodh Pyakurel and Jyoti Baniya, among others, urged the government to step up market monitoring to control black-marketing. Participants of the programme also said that they would mount pressure on Nepal Oil Corporation to adjust fuel prices in line with the international market. In response, NOC executive director Gopal Bahadur Khadka pledged to take action against those found promoting and engaging in black-marketing of fuel.
