Kathmandu, April 20 A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court today challenging government’s decision to appoint three consuls general. Advocate Dipak Rai filed the writ petition seeking termination of the appointments of three consuls general, saying their appointments did not reflect inclusion as guaranteed by the constitution, said Bishwa Raj Paudel, assistant spokesperson for the SC. The first hearing in the case is scheduled for tomorrow. The government on March 2 had appointed consuls general for Lhasa, Hong Kong and Kolkata. The government had appointed Gobinda Bahadur Karki as consul general to Lhasa of China’s Tibet Autonomous Region and Kamal Bhattarai as consul general to Hong Kong. The government had also appointed Ek Narayan Aryal as Nepal’s consul general to Kolkata of India. Lawyers’ absence delays hearings KATHMANDU: Some benches of the Supreme Court, including that of Acting Chief Justice Sushila Karki, could not start hearings in cases for almost half-an-hour due to absence of lawyers representing the litigants. According to Assistant Spokesperson for the SC, Bishwa Raj Paudel, the court started hearings at 11:00 am but the lawyers were not there to present their cases. Paudel said lawyers and the clients needed to help the court to start hearings at 11:00 am.
