Three arrested on charge of brown sugar smuggling

RAUTAHAT: Police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in smuggling of brown sugar along the East-West Highway on Thursday night. Police said two drug peddlers were arrested from Paurai along the Highway after receiving a tip-off about their involvement in the drug dealings. Police arrested Lila Raj Chaudhary of Simra Bhawanipur VDC-6 in Rautahat district and Binod Chaudhary of Chandrapur Municipality-12 in possession of 10 grams of brown sugar. According to Rautahat District Police Office spokesperson DSP Nabin Krishna Bhandari, the motorcycle-borne drug peddlers had tried to run away from the police checking and were subsequently chased further. They were riding on a two-wheeler (Na 27 Pa 9593). Police said after the intense interrogation with the duo, they named the accused 'main' drug dealer Birodhi Das of Judibela, Chandrapur Municipality-6. Subsequently, police raided the house of Das and detained him on the same night, added Bhandari. Police said they were presented at the Rautahat District Court seeking remand today.
