Kamaiyas grab land
Nepalgunj: Freed Kamaiyas and other landless people encroached upon 30 bighas of forest land in Krishnanagar-4 Belpuriya on Thursday and divided it among themselves, the treasurer of the Freed Kamaiya Society, Jagannath Chaudhary, said. Though the government had promised to provide land to the freed Kamaiyas, 1,461 freed Kamaiyas in Kanchanpur have not got their share of land. — HNS
One hurt in shootout
Rautahat: A man was critically injured when a group of Maoists shot at him on Wednesday. According to a local, Rhidaya Narayan Das of Masedhawa VDC 2 was critically injured when a group of four to five Maoists shot at him at 9:00 pm. Das was returning to his home from a neighbouring village when the bullet hit his right hand. Das was brought to district hospital Gaur for medical treatment but was was referred to Kathmandu. — HNS
Cheetah fear in school
TAPLEJUNG: The fear of a cheetah roaming the surrounding areas has literally frightened away students from the Wasus secondary school, Medibung. Principal Dilli Raman Baral said that because of the fear of the cheetah parents have been coming to the school to get their children. Teacher Bhagirath Puri said the number of students has been decreasing. Fourth-grader Bimala Ghimire said remains of animals could be found on school premises. — HNS
