KATHMANDU: As many as 82 community shelters are being built in 14 districts worst hit by the Gorkha Earthquake to bring the quake survivors under the roof at the earliest. The Central Level Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) is undertaking the construction of 46 such shelters while the Nepal Army (NA) is building 36, according to Bhishma Kumar Bhusal, Joint Spokesperson at the National Reconstruction Authority. Process to call for a tender for the construction of additional four community shelters is underway, Dr Bhusal added. A total of seven community shelters are being built in Dhading district whereas six in Rasuwa. Similarly, Kavrepalanchok will have the highest number of such shelters, standing at 13. Likewise, eight shelters are being built in Sindhupalchok, six in Ramechap, 10 in Makawanpur and seven in Okhaldhunga. Likewise, five such shelters will be built in Dolakha, Gorkha and Sindhuli districts each. A devastating earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale had struck the country on 25 April 2015 with its epicenter at Barpark VDC, Gorkha district. The constriction of the community shelters has been taking place as per the demand and decision of the District Natural Disaster Rescue Committee. As the monsoon has already entered the country, the construction of buildings has been expedited for its timely completion.
