KATHMANDU: Nepal Medical Association (NMA) on Saturday said its attention was drawn toward arrests of medical doctors from various parts of the nation recently. A statement issued from the umbrella organisation of Nepali medical doctors said police showed 'intolerance' toward the medical sector though they had a legal right to probe. NMA General Secretary Dr Mukti Ram Shrestha also claimed that the police action disrespected the doctors as the health professionals were handcuffed from the workplace. 'We request the government not to show any inhumane behaviour in the name of legal action.' More than a dozen medical doctors were arrested from Birgunj, Biratnagar and Chitwan by police teams deployed from the Central Investigation Bureau on Friday on suspicion of using fake academic credentials to study medical science or obtain professional licences.
