Gaighat, June 25 Normal life has been badly affected in Udaypur due to floods caused by incessant rainfall since Wednesday night. According to Chief District Officer of Udaypur, Krishna Chandra Ghimire, various settlements of the district have been inundated, rivers have eroded residential areas and roads have been obstructed at various places. Chief of District Police Office SP Nar Bahadur KC said hundreds of houses in three municipalities of the district have submerged. The flooded Baruwakhola River has inundated Gaighat bazaar. Locals are living in constant fear that the Baruwakhola embankment could give way any time. All the shops and marketplace remains closed in the adjoining areas. Houses and crops have submerged due to the flood in ward number 16, whereas two families were displaced after the Jaljale River swept away their houses at Jaljale-11. The flooded Triyuga, Maruwa and Kakarukhola rivers have inundated dozens of settlements and eroded cultivable lands. People have started building an embankment at Bijaytole of Katari. Similarly, Tallo Katari, Jahadi, Maruwa, Lalpur and Khasibas, among others, have also been inundated. The locals of the affected areas have shifted to safer placers, according to the police. Residents of ward number 6 and 7 of Tapeshwori VDC have been taken to safer places. Ward number 5 of Sundarpur VDC has also submerged due to the flood.
