KATHMANDU: The CPN-Revolutionary Maoist led by Mohan Baidya has objected to the decision taken by the Electricity Tariff Fixation Commission to hike electricity tariff to be effective from July 16.

In a statement issued by the party spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma on Sunday, the party has pressed the Commission to retract its decision.

The party has warned of stringent nationwide strike if the government did not backtrack on its decision to hike electricity tariff.

The Commission on June 30 had announced its decision to hike electricity tariff by to 19 per cent citing its ballooning losses and service fare. The party has claimed that the decision was a strategy to import power at exorbitant costs from foreign companies and to serve vested interests of  private electricity companies.
