Kathmandu, September 20:

Mahabir Club thumped Bouddha Football Club 4-1 and Gyanendra Armed Police Force (APF) Officers’ Club defeated Brigade Boys Club (BBC) 2-0 in the Martyrs’ Memorial San Miguel ‘A’ Division League Football Tournament here at Dasharath Stadium today. Mahabir’s win means Bouddha FC became the only winless team in the 15-team league. Mahabir — who suffered huge losses in their previous six matches — earned their first points, thanks to Som Lama and Amar Pun, who netted two goals each. Bishnu KC scored the consolation goal for Bouddha Football Club.

Skipper Jibesh Pandey scored both the goals in APF’s win over BBC. Pandey opened the scoring in the eighth minute when he fired home on Mani Kumar Pandit’s back pass inside the six-yard box. His second came in the 62nd minute through a penalty, which the APF earned after Bishnu Sunuwar brought down Pandit inside the penalty area. Earlier, Mahabir took lead in the 36th minute through Amar Pun, who beat a defender and Bouddha goalkeeper Dasharath Adhikari before scoring in an open net in counter attack. Pun scored the second goal in the 54th minute when he headed home on his skipper Manoj Shahi’s free kick.

Bishnu KC pulled one back in the 65th minute following a pass from Pradeep Kunwar, but Mahabir restored the two-goal lead in the 78th minute through Som Lama, who scored his first and team’s third goal on Amar Pun’s pass.

Som Lama got his second goal in the second minute of the injury time, when he found the net in his solo effort.
