Kathmandu, August 12 A renowned author, educator and motivational speaker from India, Indrajyoti Sengupta, today stressed on the need for 'global education'. While delivering his keynote speech at a talk programme titled 'Education today: Widen your horizon and go global' organised by Minervaa Nepal (Education) Pvt Ltd, in association with Private and Boarding Schools Organisation Nepal in Kathmandu, Sengupta said there was so much of cross-national movement of people. 'And that is where the understanding of the global culture, global language, global attitude towards teaching takes a beginning,' he said. 'The objective of global education is to share and care. A person who is already privileged will go to the underprivileged and start teaching them so as to bridge the inequality between the privileged and the underprivileged and bring justice to the system,' Sengupta said, adding that teachers needed to change their attitude to understand what education was yesterday and what it is today. 'Times have changed. Earlier, teachers mainly focused on IQ. Anyone having a lot of IQ would be said brilliant, but today the world is focusing on EQ. It is now time for teachers to get the EQ out of students,' he added. Thakin Kumar Gurung, president, PABSON-Kathmandu, said today's talk programme was purely an academic seminar that revolved around the trend of globalisation. 'The programme also seeks to widen the knowledge of school administrators or promoters,' Gurung said. Ashish Pradhan, general manager, Minervaa Nepal, said the organisation is a leading educational assessment organisation founded by a team of visionary academicians, engineers and other educational experts in Bangalore, India. 'Led by a team of consummate professionals and accomplished domain experts, Minervaa has successfully attached itself with over 550,000 students and their families in India, Bhutan and Bangladesh, while it now ventures out into beautiful Nepal,' he said. According to him, Minervaa conducts the Minervaa International Scholarship Examinations, a very unique international level assessment and scholarship service that serves a wide array of educational purposes. It also serves as a fundamental function to identify the student’s skills in all the key learning areas.
