Bhojpur, August 16 Service in state-owned health facilities has been badly affected owing to a lack of health workers in Bhojpur. According to statistics available with the District Health Office, there are around 170 posts of health workers lying vacant in the health facilities of the district. The quota set for the District Hospital specifies 11 positions, including Medical Superintendent, but the District Hospital has been without a medical superintendent after the last superintendent Dr Krishna Sah was transferred a long time ago. According to the DHO, there are 11 vacant posts in primary health centres and around 150 vacant posts in health posts and sub-health posts of the district. “Of the total quota of 387, around 170 posts for health workers have been lying vacant,” said Acting District Health Chief Dr Ramesh Syantang Tamang. He informed that there are 66 posts for health assistants, 77 posts for auxiliary nurse midwives, 50 posts for assistant health workers, four posts for staff nurses, and three positions for lab technicians yet to be filled. Besides, positions for a TB-leprosy assistant, a computer operator, and a non-gazetted second class officer are still lying vacant.
