PM orders panel to probe Ajit Mijar murder

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has directed concerned authorities to form a committee for investigation into the alleged murder of Ajit Mijar, a youth belonging to the Dalit community. The youth from Panchkhal of Kavre district was allegedly murdered after he committed an inter-caste marriage (with a Brahmin girl) on July 12 this year. After meeting with a delegation from the United Political Dalit Struggle Committee at the PM’s official residence in the Capital on Wednesday, PM Dahal ordered the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Secretary Narayan Gopal Malego and Inspector General of Police Upendra Kant Aryal to form an investigation team regarding the incident. Calling the incident 'a representative case of serious human rights violation', the PM ordered, “Form a committee for a fair investigation and carry out necessary action.” The delegation had drawn the attention of PM asking justice for the victims’ family.. Meanwhile, Dahal said the current government had taken initiatives to let the Dalit community represent in the Cabinet and promote birth registration of Dalit children. Deceased Mijar’s family has been claiming that the family of the victim's wife was responsible behind the alleged murder.
