AFC Appeal Committee dismisses Nepali footballers’ pleas

Kathmandu, August 25 The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Appeal Committee today dismissed the pleas filed by four Nepali footballers and an official against their life bans for match-fixing offences. National team captain Sagar Thapa, vice-captain Sandip Rai, goalie  Ritesh Thapa, former defender Bikash Singh Chhetri, and former coach Anjan KC had lodged appeals against the ban imposed by the AFC Disciplinary Committee. The AFC Disciplinary Committee on December 5, last year had imposed life ban on four players and two officials. Another accused, physio Dejib Thapa is absconding. “The AFC Disciplinary Committee found official Anjan KC and four players — Bikash Singh Chhetri, Sandip Rai, Ritesh Thapa and Sagar Thapa — guilty of violating article 62 and 69 of the AFC Disciplinary Code in relation to various friendly international A team fixtures during the period 2008-2012,” AFC said in a release. All Nepal Football Association on October 15 last year had suspended all of them following their arrests by the Metropolitan Police Crime Division. After keeping them in custody for about a month, police filed treason case against them at Special Court and the court is yet to give final verdict. The five footballers were released on bail on November 10.   Â
