Dhangadhi, September 7 Nepal Food Corporation Far-west Regional Office, Dhangadi, has determined a new quota system for distribution of rice in the hilly and mountainous districts of the region. NFC has introduced the new quota system to supply rice in Bajura, Bajhang, Achham, Baitadi and Darchula districts for the fiscal 2016/17. According to a source at the NFC, 22,000 quintals rice has been segregated for Kolti and Martadi depots of Bajura; 2,500 quintals for Chainpur and Bisauna depots of Bajhang; and 1,500 quintals for Mangalsain, Kamalbazaar and Binayak depots of Achham. Regional Chief of NFC, Dilliraj Lamsal, said the corporation had also segregated 1,500 quintals rice for Puchaihighat depot of Baitadi and 4,500 quintals for Paribagar, Khandeshwori and Sunsera depots of Darchula. NFC is said to have increased the rice quota for Bajura district this fiscal compared to the past years. But the quota has been reduced for Accham district this year as the local depots there could not sell the allocated rice last year. Lamsal informed that they’ve reached agreement with the concerned contractors to supply rice on time to the districts. “The allocated rice will be supplied by the third week of September as all the preparations are completed,” he added. Lamsal said around 300 quintals rice was in stock in Chainpur depot, Bajhang. The price of rice has reportedly been reduced in all the depots except Kolti depot. “NFC will sell rice at Rs 37.5 per kg, though earlier the price stood at Rs 41 per kg,” Lamsal informed. Meanwhile, NFC stated that it would try it’s the best to prevent scarcity of rice during the upcoming festive season.
