NC to consult Madhesi parties, other stakeholders

KATHMANDU: A day after the main opposition CPN-UML refused to lend its support to the purported amendment of Constitution, the largest party Nepali Congress on Tuesday decided to hold discussion with the alliance of Madhesi parties and other stakeholders before registering a proposal on the Constitution amendment at the Parliament. The Nepali Congress had held a joint meeting of its office-bearers and lawmakers at the NC Parliamentary Party office in Singhadarbar premises today. After the meeting, leader Ram Chandra Paudel informed that the Nepali Congress would consult the Madhesi Front and other stakeholders over the matter. Leader Bimalendra Nidhi, who leads the Nepali Congress squad in the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led coalition government, informed that Prime Minister Dahal is scheduled to hold a meeting with the ruling parties and the agitating Madhesi parties tomorrow. A proposal on the Constitution amendment would be prepared after the meeting, Nidhi said, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti. Leader Arjun Narasingha KC, a senior minister, said that the issues related to provincial demarcation, language, citizenship and representation in the National Assembly were discussed in today's meeting.
