Dr Hem Sagar Baral, Nepal’s leading avian specialist and conservationist has received the prestigious Bird Life International Award during a conference being held in Durban, South Africa from March 7 to 14, according to the press release issued by Bird Conservation Nepal.

Dr Baral is the only Ph D holder in ornithology in Nepal and is the first Nepali to receive the award. Bird Life International chairperson Dr Gerrard Bertrand presented the award to Baral..

Baral has been conducting vulture research as a principal researcher for Nepal. He has been the chief editor of Danphe, the leading newspaper on birds, for over a decade.
