Kathmandu, December 18 The online system through which aspiring migrant workers can obtain work permit has come into operation from today. Minister for Labour and Employment Surya Man Gurung inaugurated the system amid a programme in Kathmandu today. The digital system will relieve Nepalis going for foreign employment of hassles such as standing in a long queue to obtain work permit from the Department of Foreign Employment. For registration of aspiring workers under this process, manpower companies are required to open personal online accounts and have their user names and passwords, which they would have to inform to the department. The department would issue work permit after assessing the details of the applicants. Speaking at the event, Minister Gurung said he was happy that the system finally came into operation. He also expressed hope that the system would make it easier for migrant workers to obtain work permit. Likewise, State Minister for Labour and Employment Dilip Gachchhadar thanked the Government of Switzerland for providing financial assistance for setting up the online system. Swiss Ambassador to Nepal Jorg Giovanni Frieden said his country would continue to support Nepal in the days to come.
