United Nations General Assembly replicated at Kanjirowa

KATHMANDU: Kanjirowa National School, situated in Koteshwor of KMC-35, today conducted a Model United Nations General Assembly to help students learn the procedures and functions of the UN General Assembly. In this academic simulation of the United Nations, students from Grade VIII to X had performed the role of the delegates of the UN member states and discussed various current international affairs that affect our globe. According to a press statement issued by the school, the participants were divided into seven agencies and committees such as United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), FIRST COMMITTEE, SECOND COMMITTEE, THIRD COMMITTEE, and FOURTH COMMITTEE. The participants had discussions on various topics including promoting livelihood and education for refugees and displaced person, mitigating the public health effects of climate change, preventing violence and discrimination based on gender identity, and protecting world heritage sites from emerging threat among others. Each representative presented a ‘draft resolution’ which was followed by contentions as representatives from various member states took positions for and against the draft resolutions. 'The activity was a very important part of their practical education and helped the students provide an opportunity for experimental learning,' stated Mahendra Khanal, Principal of the school. Similarly, Kapil Dev Regmi, Executive Director of Kanjirowa, informed that Model UN is the yearly activity of the school and played a very important role in their practical education.
