Nuwakot, November 13:
Some 500 houses that dot both the sides of the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Bidur municipality have been constructed ignoring the existing rules.
The Road Act 1992 has a provision that a building must be constructed 21 metres away from the centre of the road but the municipality has approved construction of houses 15 metres from the centre.
However, Krishna Kumar Niraula, acting officer of the municipality said the office has not approved any construction within 21 metres from the centre of the road. “We have removed such construction violating the rule and we will not provide any compensation for the demolition of the structures,” he said.
Three months ago, the Nuwakot-based Five-number Division Road Office had issued a public notice saying houses constructed within 21 metres from both the centre of the road could face demolition.
