Paras Khadka leads defending champions to DPL final

KATHMANDU: Captain Paras Khadka played a blinder as defending champions Team Chauraha Dhangadhi comprehensively defeated Rupandehi Challengers by 92 runs in second eliminator of the Dhangadhi Premier League played at the Seti Zone Police Office Ground in Dhangadhi on Thursday. Khadka once again proved to be menace to Rupandehi Challengers as his jaw breaking innings shattered their hopes of qualifying to the final for the coveted trophy. Team Chauraha Dhangadhi will play against Biratnagar Kings, led by Sarad Vesawakar, for the title on Saturday. Winning toss, Khadka chose to bat and spearheaded the team to make 173 runs, their highest score of the campaign. They later restricted Rupandehi Challengers to meagre 80 runs in 15.2 overs. Khadka had been struggling for form,  post-appendix operation, showed no sign of fatigue today. He scored his tournament's personal best of 67 runs off 41 as he smashed four towering sixes and six hits to the fence. Raju Rijal contributed 25 runs and Saurav Khanal remained unbeaten on 24 runs in the winning cause. Rupandehi Challengers Krishna Karki took two wickets whereas Bikram Bhusal and Subaha Alam chipped in with a wicket each. In reply, Rupandehi Challengers batting wobbled in the crunch fixture for the second time in running as they were folded for a paltry score of 80 runs in pursuit of 173 runs. Moreover, their batting let them down as their chase got under way in a disastrous fashion. Rajesh Pulami and Krishna Karki managed to score 14 runs each in loosing cause. None of the other batsmen managed to score double digit runs as Team Chauraha Dhangadhi bowlers kept taking wickets at regular interval. Spin wizard Lalit Rajbhansi, man of the match in earlier eliminator against Kathmandu Goldens, was again pick of the bowlers with 4-0-12-3. Saurav Khanal scalped with 3 wickets and Aarif Sheikh chipped in with two wickets each. Skipper Paras Khadka was adjudged as man of the match for his flamboyant innings. In a six team tournament, however, top two teams would receive Rs 1.5 million and Rs 700,000 respectively. Man of the match in every game receives Rs 10,000, while the player of the-series will get a TVS RTR 200 Apache motorcycle, according to the tournament co-ordinator Subas Shahi.
