KATHMANDU: Nepali actor Pradeep Singh succumbed to brain haemorrhage at the Calcutta Medical and Research Institute, Kolkata, on April 21 at 4:15 pm. He was 59. Singh, who had been admitted to the hospital on March 18, suffered a brain haemorrhage on April 18. Suffering from renal problems, he had undergone kidney transplant at the same hospital one-and-a-half years ago. “He had suffered a heart attack 10 days after the kidney transplant. Stent had been placed in his heart then. He was taking medicines but used to suffer from fever and vomiting time and again. The medicines affected his other body organs and he passed away at the hospital,” informed Praveena Singh, Pradeep’s eldest daughter. He was seeking medical advice and following up regularly with his doctors after the renal transplant. “We had taken him to the Kolkata-based hospital in July, 2016 for a follow-up,” Praveena informed. Likewise, he was also undergoing regular medical check-up at Human Organ Transplant Centre, Bhaktapur. Singh’s body will be brought to the country on April 24. “We tried our best to bring it today but the paper works were lengthy and as there is no flight on April 23, we are bringing the body on April 24,” Praveena shared. His body will be kept at the Nepal Academy for all to pay their last tribute before final rites will be conducted the same day. Pradeep acted in several Nepali movies including Pachchis Basanta, Padmini, Chino, Rahar, Mitjyu, Koseli, Dui Thopa Aansu, Deuta, among others. He was a producer as well as a singer, and released Kalakar, his musical album. He had been trying to make a movie. One of the songs of the movie has already been recorded as per Praveena. “We worked together for a long time, around 12-15 years. I always found him helpful and kind. He was fun loving in nature. He wasn’t only an actor but also supported artistes morally,” recalled producer Shrawan Ghimire, who worked with the late actor in films like Koseli, Dui Thopa Aansu among others. “It is an irreparable loss,” he added. “He was an actor who saw life in the films. He was friendly and helpful and was always willing to work. We have lost him and it’s an irreparable loss for the Nepali film industry,” added Sarita Lamichhane, General Secretary, Film Artists’ Association of Nepal. He is survived by his wife Rukumani, two daughters — Praveena and Ruby — and son Rupesh.
