Tulsi Mehar’s b’day

KATHMANDU: The Gandhi-Tulsi Memorial Mahaguthi on Thursday celebrated the 100th birth anniversary of social worker, late Tulsi Mehar Shrestha. Speaking on the occasion, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, said late Shrestha, a staunch follower of Mahatma Gandhi’s non-violence movement, became a great personality of Nepal and lauded contributions made by him. Mukherjee released a souvenir taken out by the Mahaguthi and felicitated its staffers. Mukherjee also donated Rs 3 lakh to women taking shelter in the Mahaguthi. — RSS

HIV cases up

POKHARA: The number of HIV/ AIDS patients here has gone up to 509 by the end of July, a report made public by the the District Public Health Office in Kaski reveals. Out of the cases, 19 of them are said to have died. The report was released at an interaction organised here on Thursday by the office under the district-level health education and communication

Freak child born

Taplejung: Twenty-six-year-old Bindu Maya Limbu, a resident of Nighuradin VDC-2, Taplejung, gave birth to an abnormal child in the District Hospital on Friday. A big crowd had gathered at the hospital to see the baby with eyes on her forehead. The child has no fingers, her body is hairy like an animal’s and her chin is fused with her chest. The newborn baby weighs 1.5 kg.— HNS

More child centres

DOTI: The District Education Office, Achham, is set to establish 64 additional child development centres in the district this year. The centres are aimed at cultivating school-going habit among children in the age group of 3-5 while helping them in their physical and mental development. According to District Education Officer Jhankar Bista, the child development centres in all 75 VDCs will be set up with the participation of communities. He also said 40 more applications have been received from the communities demanding the start of the centres. — RSS

Road constructed

RAMECHHAP: Residents of Thakle here have constructed a road on their own initiative after the Ramechhap-Sanghutar road which was under-construction, did not pass through their village. Villagers started constructing the road from Laxmibas to Thakle aiming to bring vehicles to their village at the same time vehicles reached Sanghutar. According to a local, Nawaraj Dhakal, the villagers have constructed a 1.5 km motorable road with their own investment and voluntary labour. Rs 150,000 has been spent on the construction so far. — RSS

Nation first: Mandal

DHANUSHA: Minister of General Administration Badri Prasad Mandal has called on the civil servants to keep the country, King and the people above everything. Addressing a meeting of DDC chairmen, members and office chiefs of Dhanusha and Mahottari districts in District Development Committee Dhanusha on Thursday, he called on the office-bearers of the DDCs to help government hold the elections. Meanwhile, terming the government employees a pillar of the country, Minister of Local Development, Tanka Dhakal, called on them to work impartially. — RSS

11 killed in mishaps

DAMAULI: Eleven people were killed in 34 road accidents that occurred in Tanahun district in the last five months, the chief of the District Traffic Police Office, Sudarshan Thapa, said. Five women and 25 men were seriously injured while 13 women and 28 men sustained minor injuries in the road accidents during the same period, he said. — RSS
