Dharan, January 6:

The central vice-president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Sanjay Santoshi Rai, today said people in rural areas are deprived of their right to information after the February 1 royal takeover.

Rai was addressing media personnel who today gheraoed the district post office here in protest against the hike in postal charges. The Sunsari chapter of the FNJ gheraoed the district post office from 10 to 11 am as per the directions from its central committee. “Newspapers are not reaching the rural areas after the increment in postal charges. The people are thus not able to read their favourite newspapers,” Rai said.

He said the protest against the hike would continue until the government rolls back the same.

Various journalists, including the former central vice-president of the FNJ, Harsha Subba, and Raj Kumar Karki, chief editor of Blast Times, addressed.
