INSEC indicts Maoists for rights abuse in Ramechhap

Ramechhap, January 21:

Maoists were responsible for most of the incidents involving human rights violations in Ramechhap district in 2005, according to a report by the rights body Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC). A total of 121 incidents of rights violation took place in the district in 2005, the report said.

At a programme held today at the district headquarter of Ramechhap, Manthali, the INSEC said the Maoists were involved in 86 incidents of human rights violation in 2005.

Altogether 928 persons, including 61 women, were directly affected by the violation of human rights by the Maoists, INSEC district representative, Naba Raj Pathik, said.

Similarly, 23 incidents of human rights violation was carried out by the State in 2005 that directly affected 85 persons, including 40 women, while 12 incidents of human rights violation were carried out by other sides affecting 23 persons, including 7 women.

Hence, 1036 persons were the victims of human rights violations at the hands of different parties in 2005, the INSEC Ramechhap informed.

The Maoists were responsible for the abduction of 418 persons in Ramechhap in 2005. In the same period, 13 people, including a child, were killed: 4 by the Maoists, 3 by the State and 6 by other sides.

Three persons, including a child, were injured in Maoist bomb explosions in 2005, the report said.

Similarly, 28 incidents of economic rights violation, and dozens of incidents of the

violation of political freedom and child rights also reported in the district in 2005, the

INSEC report said.

The INSEC report also mentioned the rape of a six-year-old girl in the district at the end

of 2005.
