ITAHARI: A waste management and processing centre is under construction at the cost of Rs 131.5 million in Dumotakka village of Itahari Sub-Metropolis-10 in Sunsari district. The centre is expected to manage the solid waste amounting to around 35 metric tons produced daily by the Sub-metropolis. The plant will also produce compost fertiliser by segregating bio-degradable and non-degradable waste, said executive Officer Sagar Mishra at the Sub-Metropolis. Efforts will also be made to produce energy from the waste. This is a first of its kind in the eastern region and is expected to benefit locals and farmers alike with the production of compost fertiliser and alternative energy.
