POKHARA: Basanta Tharu of Tribhuvan Army Club and Sony Gurung of Nepal APF Club won the titles of the seventh Triathlon Championship in Pokhara on Saturday. Tharu completed the 750m swimming, 20km cycling and 5km running in one hour, six minutes and 19 seconds to finish first in men’s section. Dipesh Chaudhary came second in 1:07:50 and Rudra Katuwal was third in 1:08:15. In women’s section, Gurung won gold medal in 1:22:24, finishing ahead of Yam Kumari Bhujel (1:26:55). In men’s duathlon, Man Bahadur Thapa of TAC, Kiran Malla of APF and Laxman Malla of Kathmandu won gold, silver and bronze medals respectively. Likewise, Humi Budhamagar of Pyuthan, Manju Khadka of TAC and Shantikala Rai of Jhapa claimed top three spots respectively. A total of 11 athletes including two women took part in triathlon and 28 players including seven women participated in duathlon events of the championship organised by Nepal Triathlon Association.
