First assembly meeting of Province 2 in Janakpur

Janakpurdham, Dec 29 The first meeting of provincial assembly of Province 2 is set to convene at the building of teachers training centre on the premises of District Education Office, in Janakpur Sub-metropolitan City-12, Dhanusha. The building of teachers training centre has been finalised for the first meeting keeping in mind the repair and renovation expenses. Dhanusha Chief District Officer Dilip Chapagain said the building constructed with financial assistance of Japan has all the facilities required for the meeting. “For the time being, the residence for chief minister, province head and speaker will be in the same building,” CDO Chapagain added. Province 2 has 107 provincial assembly members including 64 elected members under the first-past-the-post and 43 members under proportional representation system. There are eight districts in the province. The training centre has a meeting hall with a capacity to accommodate 300 people. “For now, we have no better option than the training centre,” CDO Chapagain said. According to Chapagain, Janakpur Cigarette Factory, Fish Development Training Centre, Guest House of Nepal Rastra Bank, Agriculture Development Bank’s building can be used for various purposes. Federal Parliament Secretariat’s Joint Secretary Bharat Gautam said meeting hall of the provincial assembly should have facilities to accommodate audience, journalists, security personnel, and staffers. According to Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal’s Chair Upendra Yadav, Cigarette Factory can be the best option for the secretariat of the provincial assembly. The factory has guest house, residence, pond, garden, playground, administrative building and other infrastructures. The government has yet to fix the provincial capital. Top leadership of RJP-N and FSF-N had already given green signal to make Janakpur the provincial capital. NC Dhanusha president and provincial assembly member Ram Saroj Yadav said making Janakpur the province capital would help to revive age-old Mithila civilisation.
