KATHMANDU, JANUARY 31

Renowned Indian mountaineer and author Umesh Zirpe has launched the English version of his book 'Mountain Man Sherpa' in Kathmandu, on Sunday.

The book was unveiled amid a special programme organised by the Sherpa Journalists Association Nepal in the capital today.

In the book, the author has described about the rich cultural diversity of the Sherpa community including their traditions, culture, language, and history.

The author has also lauded the simple lifestyle of famous mountaineer Mingma Sherpa, first Sherpa writer Lukpa Futi Sherpa, Everest Summiteers Association chairperson Maya Sherpa, and late tourism entrepreneur Wongchu Sherpa, in the book.

'The book will not only be a useful tool for those looking to study and research about the Sherpa community but also act as a bridge to establish people-to-people relations between the two countries,' Fupu Chembe Sherpa, Chief of Gumba Development Committee, also the chief guest of the event, said. He also mentioned that the book would help promote the Sherpa community in the global arena.

Likewise, Karma Sherpa, one of the guests added, 'Despite being an Indian national, the author has penned a book about the Nepali Sherpa community after conducting an in-depth and detailed study about the community. It's a joyous moment for the whole community.'

The original version of the book, which was scripted in Zirpe's native Marathi language, was later translated to English by Bibek Seude.

Peak Promotion Pvt Ltd organised the book launch programme, according to company chairperson Babu Sherpa.
