KATHMANDU: Nepal faced a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Yemen in the Group F match of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha, Qatar on Tuesday. Abdul Wasea Al-Matari scored a brace for Yemen, while Nawayug Shrestha netted one for Nepal. With the victory, Yemen qualified for the finals with 10 points. Nepal, who were already out of the race, ended the campaign with just two points. The two teams had played a goalless draw in Nepal’s home match at the APF Club grounds in June. Al-Matari opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Shrestha levelled the scores in the first-half injury time. Al-Matari then scored from the spot in the 84th minute after Nepal skipper Biraj Maharjan committed foul inside the danger zone.
