KATHMANDU: A large number of people have gathered in Lagantole of Kathmandu to pay obeisance to Seto Machhindranath.
The chariot procession carrying the statute of Seto Machhindranath, revered as the god of rain, arrived in Lagantole on Tuesday evening. Since then, a large number of devotees have been coming to worship the deity.
The procession began from Tindhara Pathshala premises on Sunday; it reached Lagantole after passing through Ason and Hanumandhoka on Monday.
It is traditionally believed that worshipping Machhindranath relieves one from diseases, said ward member of KMC-24 Binod Tuladhar.
Seto Machindranath is a deity worshiped by both Hindus and Buddhists in Kathmandu. The temple of Seto Machindranath is located in Jana Bahal, also known as Machhindra Bahal. Located between Ason and Indrachok in central Kathmandu, the temple is believed to have been established around the 10th century. Every year, the deity's image is placed in a chariot and paraded around Kathmandu. The chariot procession festival of Seto Machindranath is celebrated during the Nepali month of Chaitra (March/April).
