KATHMANDU: A meeting of the CPN-UML and CPN Maoist Centre Party Unification Coordination Committee (PUCC) held today has remained inconclusive. The two communist parties are all set to merge after settling pending issues, including the percentage of representation in the committees of the unified party, among other contentious points. In the PUCC meeting held at the PM's official residence in Baluwatar, task forces from both the parties submitted reports on matters which have not been sorted out in the statute yet, according to Prime Minister's Press Coordinator Chetan Adhikari. It is yet to be decided whether to include the Maoists’ ‘people’s war’ in the party statute. In the meeting, the UML and the CPN MC could not reach agreement to resolve issues related to the election symbol of the unified party and the ratio in which leaders from both parties would be inducted in the unified party’s committees. However, leaders clearly expressed their opinions about the organisational setup and interim statute proposed by the two task forces. Earlier, the coordination committee had recommended April 22 as the date for party merger, which would be reconsidered in the next meeting after PM's arrival from the three-day India visit.
