KATHMANDU, MAY 4
Youth-led social enterprise Green Miracle has launched a community-based moringa plantation initiative in Dhulikhel and surrounding areas of Kavrepalanchok, aiming to promote climate resilience, nutrition and sustainable livelihoods.
Under the first phase, around 80 saplings of Moringa oleifera have been planted, with a target of 100 saplings to be completed in the coming days across community land, organic farms and landslide-prone areas.
The initiative is being implemented in coordination with local communities, focusing on ecological restoration, soil stability and income generation. The organisation said it has also ensured post-plantation care, including monitoring and maintenance for long-term sustainability.
Green Miracle said moringa, known for its high nutritional value and climate adaptability, has potential to support agroforestry systems and create value-added products.
The initiative follows the team's selection among the top 30 out of 119 global teams in the Food Systems Innovation Challenge 2026. The project has also received seed funding from Wageningen University & Research and partner organisations.
With technical support from Kathmandu University and the Nepal Technology Innovation Centre, the team is developing moringa-based nutritional products using advanced processing techniques.
Green Miracle said the initiative aims to build a scalable model integrating climate resilience, nutrition and youth-led innovation for sustainable community development.
