Kathmandu, April 15 Tribhuvan Army Club ‘A’, Xavier International and SDC Hounds recorded wins in the first Manamohan Memorial Open Basketball Tournament here today. In the men’s section match, TAC thrashed Universal 82-33 riding on Rabin Khatri’s 33 points. TAC dominated the field throughout the match and won all four quarters — 18-12, 15-2, 33-9 and 16-10. Similarly, Xavier outplayed Nepal Sports Federation 50-41. NSF won the first quarter 11-8 but Xavier bounced back and claimed the next three quarters 13-11, 12-9 and 17-10. Anish Magar of Xavier top scored with 16 points. Also, Hounds defeated South Siders 57-52 in which Saroj Shrestha netted 25 points for the winners. South Siders claimed the first quarter 19-13 but Hounds came back strongly and took the remaining three quarters 18-14, 13-7 and 13-12. In women’s section, Saipal Academy thrashed hosts NSF 62-16. Saipal opened with a 16-6 lead and never looked back. They won 22-3, 18-2 and 6-5 in the next three quarters. Roshani Shrestha netted 12 points for Saipal. A total of 15 teams, nine in men’s and six in women’s sections, are competing in the league-cum-knockout event organised by Nepal Sports Federation. The winners and runners-up in men’s section will receive Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively, while the most valuable player and the highest scorer will get Rs 10,000 each. Similarly, top two teams in women’s section will earn Rs 30,000 and Rs 15,000 respectively, while the MVP and the highest scorer will get Rs 5,000 each.
