Kavre, March 5:

Students on the Chaitanya Campus and Kavre Multiple Campus in Banepa have called an indefinite closure of their colleges as the colleges did not allow them to form a Free Students’ Union (FSU) on the two campuses.

“We called the strike after the colleges refused to recognize the formation of FSU,” said a student, Ganesh Luitel, of Chaitanya College, adding that the strike would not be called off until their demands are met.

In Kavre, students are taking the initiative to form FSU in various colleges including Kavre, Chaitanya, Indreshwor, Sanjeevani and Tej Ganga colleges. Students also said that they would ask for the resignation of campus chiefs if their demands are not met.

This is the second attempt by students to form FSU in the colleges. Eleven years ago also they had tried but failed.
