KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 4

The musical event 'Paleti' has made a comeback, paying tribute to the late artists and creators who once graced its stage and contributed to the renaissance of modern Nepali music.

In a press statement issued today, Nepalaya announced the revival of Paleti, honoring the departed souls who once graced its stage. After a prolonged hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event has returned with a renewed commitment to its legacy and continuity.

Recognized as a common platform for Nepali musicians across Nepal, India, and Bhutan for the past two decades, the event had remained discontinued since the COVID-19 pandemic. Presented by Nepalaya, the program has been curated by poet and musician Aabhash.

Marking its revival, Paleti staged its first performance at Nepalaya's Aarshala in Kalikasthan on Friday and Saturday, it said in the statement.

The event featured the works and songs of eleven distinguished artists, including Rashtrakavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Amber Gurung, Ratna Shumsher, Prem Dhoj, Fatteman, Ramman 'Trishit,' Bhim Birag, Yogesh Vaidya, Kumar Subba, Binod Syangden, and Meera Thapa.

According to the statement, among the 56 artists associated with Paleti, several have passed away in recent years, and this edition was dedicated to their memory.

The musical renditions, however, were performed by a younger generation of vocalists-Abhigya Ghimire lent her voice on behalf of the female performers, while Benup Chhetri took on the male vocals. Alongside them, the newly restructured Paleti ensemble for this revival included Kripesh Lohani on guitar, Milan Ghimire on flute, Parasmani Subedi on percussion, Laxmi Prasad Dangol on tabla, and Dinesh Regmi on keyboard, reads the statement.

The performance opened with a tribute to Ratna Shamsher through the timeless melody "Phoolai Phoolko Mausam Timilai," while the evening concluded with Ramman Trishit's evocative composition "Ek Phool Jhareko Ke Bho."

With the announcement of Paleti's revival, a three-month lineup of performances has been unveiled. Following Chandan and Daisy's family-themed session, the subsequent month will see the presence of one of modern Nepali music's most influential lyricists, Kaliprasad Rijal, gracing the stage.

For this special edition, Aabhash himself plans to collaborate on the presentation of Rijal's latest compositions. Additionally, on the very day of Paleti's tribute to Kaliprasad Rijal, a book compiling his selected songs and poems-curated and edited by Aabhash-will be released.

With the official announcement of these upcoming Paleti sessions, ticket bookings have now been opened to the public, as stated in the statement.
