KAPILVASTU: Large tract of agricultural land has been inundated at Mayadevi Rural Municipality-8 in Kapilvastu district following incessant rain.

Around 700 bigha of arable land at Jamuni, Haribanshapur, Bijuwa and Barkul villages have become inundated following unabating rainfall since Sunday. 300 bigha of fields in these settlements where farmers had already planted paddy have also been washed away due to the flooding.

The farmers had approached the then District Development Committee and Water Induced Disaster Prevention Office, Bhairahawa for constructing embankments. However, their requests were left unheard, leading to this situation, according to the locals.

Chief of Mayadevi Rural Municipality, Bajarangi Prasad Chaudhary, said that he would take initiatives to address the problem of inundation by coordinating with the province and federal governments.
