KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Students Union staged a demonstration in front of Nepal Telecommunications Authority, the telecom sector regulator of the country, at Kamaladi on Wednesday, demanding that the government roll back its decision to impose an extra 13 per cent tax on internet users. NSU President Nain Singh Mahar said the levying of the tax directly affected students as they had been dependent on the internet for study purposes. He said the decision also showed the government’s ‘communist character’ as it sought to curtail the people’s access to information by making internet inaccessible to the general public as in communist countries.
